Contemporary: Toilet Talk

Hands up anyone who can tell me the most common asked question in the museum world.  "Where is the Picasso?" is frequently heard at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection - main door, look right, look left, then proceed into the dining room for another pure cubist work on the right.  "What was this building before?" I am sure is asked at the Tate Modern - Battersea Power Station.  However, the most commonly asked question in all my extensive gallery attending has been "where is the restroom/toilet/bathroom/gents?"

We at the Contemporary also take this inquiry seriously.

During our recent hiatus we have been improving our own "facilities" and I am pleased to provide you with some recent pictures of the Toilet_blog_001transformation.

Rachel has been very informative with her "before and after" scenarios, so I have just nipped downstairs to take these pics.  If anyone is truly interested our Facilities Manager, Jason, can detail the ins and outs.  Basically we have a new floor with proper tiles and new stalls for the ladies and gents.

Toilet_blog_002They are really looking very smart, as you can see, all pristine and ready for the opening night next month.

However, my dream is that on that night the most heard question will be "what is the artist telling us here?" or perhaps "where can I buy this work?" and not the toilet talk we are used to hearing.
